I am almost done with my first build, and I want to make sure I get the wiring corrrect.
First of all here is my build so you can see all my parts.
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/kDYvWX

And yes I have tried looking at the manuals and everything but I am just a bit confused.

So what I have left I need to find out:

1)
The motherboard came with some shorter silver Sata cables, which I believe are the data cables.
Is the other sata slot for powering the HD/SDD?

So if it is, do I hook up the data cables from motherboard directly to HD/SSD?
If so, does it matter which motherboard slot I use? I believe they are numbered.
And the normal ones have 3 sata ports/whatever the term is on the cord, does it matter which one I use, and do they run directly from PSU to HD/SSD?

2)
I have the CPU cord (8 pin) plugged into PSU, the other end has two 4 pins connecting into an 8, and then that one has two 8 pins on the end which I put into the motherboard where I believe is the correct spot? Is this the right way?

3)
I also need to wire in my graphics card.
Which cord do I use for this and what all does it hook up to?

4)
Is it normal if I did not end up using any molex?

The rest of the assembly was easy but the wires I want to make sure are done correctly, so I really appreciate any help.

Hi Justin21!
1.) Yes, the smaller SATA port in you storage devices are data and the larger ones are power (they usually plug in directly from your PSU). It matters only if you're a neat freak or have more than one storage device- SATA 0 is the first one, if you "should" plug your primary drive in here (should be in mobo manual if you're unsure which is zero).
2.) You shouldn't have to worry about plugging in the CPU power wrong, it's keyed.
3.) The VGA cables (they ought to be labeled as such, I have the same PSU). The part of the GPU power cable that the other two connect to goes into the card, and you'll need to plug in a VGA cables into your PSU and then into you cards power cables (don't worry about the leftover two pin...

4.) Yes, that's fine, molex is really only for old stuff and some fans.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your build!

It did help I am almost ready, now I just need to hook up the optical drive.
I had another sata power cable for it, but I don't have the smaller data cable, will it not work without it?

Unfortunately, no. It will have power, but it wont be reading anything yet.
I made the same mistake on my build (one less data cable than needed). Here was my solution-
Because you have 2 storage devices, and you probably want your OS and drivers (which is one of the reasons you need the optical drive, I assume) installed on the SSD, you can borrow the data cable from the HHD until you are finished installing drivers. Then you can just switch it back and use your PC without an optical drive until you get another data cable.
You can also forget about the optical drive for a while and just get the drivers online, then connect the optical drive when you have another data cables.
Or you can just wait for another data cable and not have to switch them. Just a note before you drive out to the store like I did- SATA data cables are not sold in stores, you need to get them online.
It depends on how important the optical drive is.
Hope this helps!

Yep, thats what I did except I used normal hard drive for now, but it didnt matter much cause I cant get the PC to power on, now I am troubleshooting that. Thank you for the help!
