Hello to all the Tom's Forum Community Members. My name is Daniel(travelplus) and I wanted to introduce myself to the Forum.

First of all I can't thank you enough for the forum. I have been a lurker and have read and learned so much from the forum. I am a tech geek from the Silicon Valley!!!!

Currently I am posting from a 2007 HP Media Center PC that has WIndows 10 Pro and is running faster than my Father's 3 year old HP Pavilion laptop. I also have a 2006 Sony Vaio Laptop running Windows 10 Pro that I inherited from my Grandfather and maxed it out to the best and now its about to die and I just ordered the HP Envy x360 15t(which I asked for your opinion in the Laptop Tech Forum).

I have been using PCs since 1984 when I was born with the old DOS. I still remember the commands CD:/Windows DIR/P to Windows 3.0 and 3.11 Networking. We setup a Network at our home in 1993 and had AOL back then. In 1996 we got a local ISP with Netscape Navigator(back in June).

I still remember the SVPAL(Silicon Valley Public Access Link BBS) where you downloaded the software and dialed in. I used EasySabre through AOL, Compuserve and listened to my first online radio station on dialup back in October 1998(NRJ FM in Paris). Luckily we had a dedicated phone line that was shared with the Fax for our Dial Up Internet and we all fought for our time.

My Brother was grounded on a few occasions from going online as he wound up missing school. I on the other hand was the opposite a morning person. Now I have turned into a nocturnal and morning person.
We got High Speed Cable Internet in 1999 with Comcast then went to ATT UVerse in 2008 and have been with them ever since. I can remember the day getting cable internet it was light and day!!!!

I was the early adopter to booking airline tickets online back in the day where they still sent the physical ticket. I also was one of the first to do online chcekin back when airlines gave bonus miles to do so(American).

I also started using MapQuest back in the 90s and had AAA Trip Planner CD.

Call me ancient I remember the old Apples where you needed a startup disk to load. We had Mac Pluss and Mac 2CIs(that still work and are in our playhouse). My Brother his friends and I networked them along with the old ImageWriter.

I still prefer PCs. Who would have ever thought of a 2-in-1 Laptop Tablet? Apple sure didn't. The price is lower and I love Windows 10. We now have Gigabit Internet, 80211ac, Google Internet, Free WiFi Hotspots, Netflix etc.

I was one of the early adopters of streaming audio/video back with the old RealTime Players. When WinAmp first debuted I tried it out. I have used browsers from Opera, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Chrome, Safari,Firefox etc.

I even took online college courses back in 1998 when Eudora was the Mail Client and it was before the current Course Management Systems. I have a BA and MA with an emphasis in E-learning as well as a Certificate in Assistive Technology for people with advisability as well as a Certificate in Travel and Tourism.

I have used the old cellphones from the Motorolla large phone all the way to the Microosft Lumia 640. I know how life was before Smartphones. Luckily my Brother wrote tech reviews so I helped him to try out the latest cool gadgets from the Wacom Digital Board where you could draw on it to the Polycom Telephone confrencing unit. One odd device my Brother had was the Microsoft Phone with voicemail boxes. I remember making some creepy greetings.

The children of today are sadly spoiled. I got my first cellphone when I was almost 19 and it was the Motorola E815. My first Smartphone at age 29. You can see I don't want to spend $800 on a SmartPhone .

As a kid my Father got me a custom built computer. Back when it was a 486 Windows 3.11 PC and upgraded it to Windows 95 and Windows 98. Dang I remember my Father up late at night installing Windows 95 and 98 using disks. Thank god for automated installs for the most part. I got a virus and my Father fixed it. I just miss the "Tada" sound when Windows 3.11 started up.

I had a 1993 Encyclopedia Britannica to the old Flight Sim.

So that sums me up. I hope to learn from you and I can't wait to share my knowledge with all of you.
