Best current CPU for gaming under £500

Hi all,

I'm curious as to what currently is the best intel or AMD processor, for gaming there is. Because i am not currently convinced that newer means better.

Best balance of cost vs performance - latest i5k
Better performance - latest i7k, but not worth the extra costs.

The older i5k's and i7k's are just as good, but only marginally cheaper, just rarer and with fewer mobo options available as stocks run out.

for pure gaming purposes the I5-6600k and the I7-6700k are going to be the "Best" gaming CPU's at the moment.

you do not need that much money to buy a gaming cpu. just buy a i5 6600k for £210 and a good z170 motherboard. use the rest of the money to buy a better gpu.

Newer does generally mean better. Every year Intel improves its performance per clock by 5-10%, and raises clockspeed. So, fastforward several years and you have much faster CPUs.
