Just built a new computer. Was playing games on it for about 5 hours. Then all of a sudden I was getting a USB Device Not Recognized error constantly over and over and it never stops. It sometimes pops up 3 times at once. It keeps making an error sound and is driving me insane now.

The part that makes no sense is that when the error happens. It shows unknown USB device within the device manager only when I am getting that error message. Bug the error only shows up for a few seconds until I get the error again. Once the error goes away from the bottom right. The unknown device wihin device manager also goes away as if it's working.

I don't understand how to fix this, I have googled everywhere. I formatted my PC thinking something happened there. I thought maybe the front USB ports were defective so I completely unplugged those from the board all together. Still getting the error. The more strange part is, all the back USB ports work 100% of the time while I am getting this error. So all USB ports are in fact still working.

Do I just have a defective board? Because I have no idea what else to do at this point.

I have the MSI Z170A M5 motherboard.

It appears to be on the latest BIOS out of the box it would seem. Must be pretty new from their factory I would assume then. As for drivers, there were a few that it found that I never installed manually from their website. Not sure what they were or do but installed anyway. I have not gotten the error as of yet since updating those. But it likes to go away for an hour and then constantly popup for 30 minutes and vanish again. Most messed up thing I have seen in ages. Will post again if it comes back or if I assume it might be fixed.

I never even knew they had an auto updating driver scanner. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Well it seems to be fixed from what I can gather. Was literally driving me insane from the noise more so then the error message itself. THANKS A LOT!
Sadly now, I need to switch back to Windows 7 as my windows 10 was through the free upgrade and apparently researching when using new hardware I cant use my Windows 10 CD Key for my new hardware since the free upgrades were hardware bound. Guess I will need to buy Windows 10 in the future. :(

which PC is currently switching back?

On new PC, you can run unactivated while you save for a new licence, and if you talking about old PC, the win 10 licence is perma on it, and can always be used, and we aren't sure how many parts you can switch on it and still use it. expect its about 5 or so.

I gutted the old PC. Using my GPU and PSU from it. New motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Too many hardware changes. And I don't know how long it will be before I can buy a product key right now. Probably more then 30 days which is all windows 10 allows without activating is it not? Or has that been changed?

Did you try to reactivate? What version of win 10 are you running? If you have the anniversary edition it might let you reactivate it on new pc

In Windows 10 (Version 1607 or later), you can link your Microsoft account to the Windows 10 digital license on your device. This can help you reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter if you make a significant hardware change later, such as replacing the motherboard.

Go to this link and look at the second part about reactivating. I realise you didn't do the first step oif linking your entitlement to logon on old pc but this might work: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

I have gone to far now. Almost done getting everything back up on Windows 7. I read a site similar to the one you posted with using windows 10 on new hardware. And yes I did miss step 1. Ill just grab a product key here in a few months. I do really appreciate all the help though. Cheers!
