I would like to ask the community if you need to clear or wipe the ram before using it in another motherboard or new build. Of course the ram sticks need to have the same socket type but when putting it into a new build would I need to do anything special before I use it? I was just wondering how it really works and also I was wondering if I should go for 16 gb of ram instead of using only 8gb so in my next build I wouldn't have to upgrade the ram or anything. I personally think 8 gb is fine for me as a student who is looking to use the build for studying but also light gaming. Thanks.

You can freely move ram so long as it is compatible with where you are moving it to.
To confirm this, find the ram selection app on the ram vendor web site.
Enter your new motherboard, and see if the ram you have is on the compatible list.
8gb is normally more than enough unless you are heavily multitasking.
There is no negative to having extra ram. Windows keeps old code in ram in anticipation of reuse.
Considering the relatively low price for ram today, I would recommend a 2 x 8gb kit for a new build.
Do not install 8gb and plan on adding 8gb more later. It may or may not work.
