Hello,

I'm looking for the best upgrade for 1080p gaming, as well as fast rendering times. I've settled on NVIDIA due to Shadowplay features as well as being a long time fan.

My specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD A8-6600K
GPU: PNY Geforce GTX 960 Performance Edition
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-UP4
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 at 800 MHz
HDD: 4 TB 5400 RPM drive
PSU: Sentey 725 watt
Monitor 1: Asus VS228H-P 21.5 inch 1080p HDMI monitor
Monitor 2: AOC 917W 1440x900 VGA monitor

For reference, here are some games I run right now and their performance:

Call of Duty: Black Ops III- High settings at 70% render rate 40-55 fps

Fallout 4 with very few mods on Ultra: 35-50 fps

CS:GO with all settings maxed out: 80-120 fps

My machine takes approximately 3-4 hours to render a half hour gameplay video. I would also like a recommendation for the best card for 1080p gaming as well as to get that rendering time down.

I'm looking for a card that can pretty much play all games maxed out at 60 fps without much hiccups. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the GTX 1070 or 1080. Will the GTX 1070 do just fine for my needs, or should i spend the extra money on the GTX 1080?

I don't see how you made got to that conclusion. Zen's release has nothing to do with what you buy.

1. The 1070 is really "too much card" for 1080p, regardless of CPU. If you looked at TPU links, you are above 60 fps in everything ion the test suite except for Crysis 3 and that can be hit with overclocking.

2. Your current CPU will gimp the 1070's performance. So buying a 1070 to use for the next 3 years on that CPU doesn't make sense. But of you were planning on upgrading MoBo / CPU / RAM in 1, 3, 6, 12 or 18 months, then buying a 1070 would make sense ... well except for the fact that you still at 1080p... so then BOTH your CPU and your GFX card would be overkill for your playing resolution.

In short, get a good AIB 1060...

A GTX 1060 is as far as I would go with an A8-6600k. A 1070 is a really good choice if you're upgrading your CPU in the very near future (it's great on the high-end for AAA titles). But if it's going to be awhile, GTX 1070-like performance ought to be be a lot less expensive by that point, so it wouldn't make sense to pay for performance right now your APU will prevent you from really taking advantage of.

I see. Is there a CPU on the FM2/FM2+ socket that i can upgrade to to take advantage of the GTX 1070?

No. And tehre never will be. that platform is a dead end.
That being said, you probably will want to upgrade your platform at some point, so getting a 1070 is not a bad idea. You just will not be using it to it's potential until you do.

Alright. So now my position is pretty much a 1060 will suit my needs perfectly, but if I want to get any higher than that then I should wait for AMD Zen to be released?

In short, get a good AIB 1060 .... it will be fine until you do a complete system upgrade including MoBo, CPU, RAM and monitor. A 1070 will keep you above 60 fps at 1440p, a 1060 will keep you there at 1080p
