Wireless Router file storage drops speed and then cuts out and restarts ???

the model of my router is the tenda ac1200 adsl2+ dual band modem router

and I setup storage service so i can plug a 750gb external hard drive into the usb port on the back, now it shows up and i copied a song to test it was working but I tried to copy a movie over onto it and it started copying but dropped speed all the way down to 0 kbps nothing basically and I have noticed that the internet cuts out and the router restarts why is this ? have I set it up wrong please need help and would like to use usb file storage because I dont need to power an entire nas for this just for streaming movies and music etc.

Many routers still have significant trouble handling this.
Three is really nothing you can do.

If you do not need speed then I would suggest getting a raspberry pi, do a basic setup and plug your usb hard drive into it.
You will be limited to 100mbps speed over network, and usb 2.0 read/write speed but for media playback (even h.265 4k) that is fully sufficient
