Yesterday I had 2 USB 3 ports (side by side) die on me while being used. This has never happened before and I made a small attempt at fixing it but after no success I decided to buy a 4 USB 3 hub. Using different ports I was able to log on and install the usb hub and I plugged my mouse, keyboard and headphones into it and had no problem.
Well about 2 minutes later the hub stopped working and I couldn't use my mouse or keyboard. I tried plugging them into every other port on my computer and they still would not work. So I powered down my pc. I tried to restart and it booted fine but I couldn't use my mouse or keyboard so I can't log in. I've tried different mice and keyboards on every port and still nothing. I've even tried with the hub.
I've also tried booting the computer with nothing connected and plugging in then. Nothing.
heres what's interesting tho. I know the ports work because I have a wireless adapter that when plugged into them will connect to my wifi. So it must be a software issue.
I am on window 10 newest patch. Desktop PCs. From memory: gigabyte motherboard

Gtx 970
