I am currently able to receive a signal when running HDMI from my R9 290x to my monitor. However, it does not appear that the graphics card is working. Although the card is spinning and putting out video it does not show up in the bios or underneath my device manager. The bios says that a piece of hardware is occupying the PCI slot but it does not identify it as an R9 290x. I have attempted putting the card in other PCI slots and have achieved the same results. I believe that a drop of water may have hit the graphics card and resulting in this problem as the computer, HDMI, and monitor were all working flawlessly prior to me transporting the desktop from my house to my car on a drizzly evening. Is this problem as simple as "yes, the water fried the graphics card and it's time for an early upgrade" or could the problem be elsewhere seeing as the card is still spinning and outputting a signal?

Solution
ive gotten hardware wet before and not fried it, BUT its possible you are screwed.

Most likely problem is some kind of virus or malware. if you are getting display and not showing what the display is coming from its a software issue 99% of time.

if you cant find it via virus scan look into reinstalling windows.
