Hello all,

This post is a follow up to my previous post, you can view here:

Today I am asking for help with finding a suitable External 2.5/ 3.5 IDE HDD Docking Station. I want to try my hand at recovering data from an older HDD by connecting it to my current PC. The HDD is a Seagate Barricade 7200 (160 GB). It is IDE (PATA?), it is not SATA. Also my current PC does not support USB 3.0. Now I have seen some docking stations on Amazon but most of them are SATA to USB 3.0. I am looking to get a nice plug & play, reasonable priced docking station that is compatible with my older Seagate HDD. I liked the one suggested in my previous post but it only supports SATA, the lay flat factor was nice too but alas. Looking forward to your responses, thanks.

Why don't you just do a Google (or Newegg or Amazon) search on IDE-to-USB adapter & IDE-to-USB docking station and you'll be directed to a slew of these types of devices? I assume this will be basically a one-shot deal of copying whatever data you desire from an old IDE/PATA disk so a USB 2.0 interface will be acceptable.

@ArtPog Hey, thanks again for posting. I actually already own an IDE to USB adapter. I believe it's fried, doesn't seem to be working any longer. Was hoping to get an external docking station like you recommended so after I do some data recovery on my ID HDD I could buy a SATA drive and use as an external. I did find some on Amazon/Newegg but not sure which I should get. I have been reading hit or miss reviews, like this common one for instance:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LSFZRTU/ref=mp_s_a_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1471502833&sr=8-22&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=hdd+docking+station+ide&dpPl=1&dpID=41MOnxxnd6L&ref=plSrch

But tbh I am looking at this one now:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009F7TXMK/ref=mp_s_a_1_33?ie=UTF8&qid=1471502923&sr=8-33&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hdd+docking+station+ide&dpPl=1&dpID=51LEQiQ-zEL&ref=plSrch

I'm not familiar with either of those two IDE devices. As you can imagine there's little call nowadays for a USB enclosure designed for IDE/PATA drives. We have two or three USB enclosures specifically designed for IDE drives hanging around in our shop which we rarely use any more. Of course they're discontinued models. Also have a couple of those IDE-to-SATA adapters that are "hidden" somewhere around here. When we used them in the past it was something of a crapshoot - sometimes they worked, other times nada.

Don't know if you would be interested in one of these PCI adapters, but take a look...
