Hello,
As the post header reads, I'll be building a computer with a Broadwell i7 extreme CPU and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB graphics card. I'm going to put in 128GB of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX. I plan to run 4 virtual machines in addition to the host machine for a variety of functions. Can someone recommend a couple of the best motherboards (ATX) that fit the bill along with a matching power supply (850 Watts?)? Many thanks!

Solution
ATX is the form factor whether it says ATX or ATX12V.
For a PSU get a quality Gold or Platinum certified unit of 850W by EVGA, Seasonic, or Antec which are good quality units and will serve you well into the future and allow for future expansion.
Hi erest8 :) you must be a pro photographer or video king for all that Ram, lol

These are a range of ASUS good quality boards.

ASUS Strix X99 Gaming supports up to 128GB ,DDR4 at 3300MHz OC.
Depending on your other requirements review here:

The ASUS LGA2011-v3 5-Way Optimization SafeSlot X99 ATX Motherboard X99-DELUXE II looks interesting. Weird question: Will any 850 watt power supply work with this motherboard? Do you have a brand that you like? Finally, running this much RAM, should I go for a gold or platinum rated power supply? Thank you very much.

Not any PSU erest8, It is after all the lifeblood of your system.
Your safe with the Wattage of 850W however an efficient quality PSU of gold certification by EVGA, Seasonic or Antec will see you safe.
Running that much ram will depend on the strength of the IMC on your chip. You paid a handsome price for it so it should work. No guarantee however as it depends on your luck with the lottery.

I sure hope it works! Stupid chip cost me north of $1K. It says it's set up to handle 2400MHz. This is my very first build and I'll be stumped it things don't come together. I appreciate your time. Thank you.

Final questions, I'm on pcpartpicker.com and I see PSU's listed as both ATX and ATX12V form factor. 1) What's the difference? 2) Which do I want if I go with the motherboard I mentioned above ( ASUS LGA2011-v3 5-Way Optimization SafeSlot X99 ATX Motherboard X99-DELUXE II)?
