Hi Guys/Girls, I am the worst when it comes to my pc components but I can at least say what ram means and where it goes (Random Access Memory) but I have no clue about my cpu :)
In my build I have a Amd Athlon x4 860k, Nvidia gtx 960, 16gb 1600hz Ram and some gigabyte motherboard but I don't know what that is... I was wondering whether or not I could simply buy an intel core i5-3470 and swap it for my amd and get gaming? Or am I completely wrong?

Please help cause my Amd card seems to be bottlenecking my gpu so I want to unlock the full potential of the GTX 960

Thanks in advance

Okay, that'll help a bit, I'll aim for a bit less than 15cm and the CPU fan should help.

I am going to recommend the CPU cooler I have, which is really good in my opinion, and it will fit in your case.

I have put together a little setup that should be good for your case and needs:

As it comes to overclocking, this board is not made for it, but I have read around and the i3-6100 is a great cpu for games.

Because you like silence, I have recommended the Arctic Freezer 13, it is extremely quiet and at first, I thought it wasn't even powered on.

The RAM, is of requirements for the CPU and Motherboard.

Apologies for breaking your £200 budget, but it is only £30 over, so you could probably stick...

First off, do you have a budget when coming to this?

Also, are you willing to purchase a new motherboard (Or do you think you're not up to that)?

You may not know, but different motherboards and CPUs have/require different sockets, and you cannot simply buy an i5-3470 and insert it into the socket on your motherboard.

This procedure is probably more technical than you may realise.

You will need to take off the heatsink and then remove the processor, and depending if the CPU comes with a stock CPU cooler, you may need extra thermal paste (You'll need it if you install it incorrectly, as it needs to be replaced if that happens).

So if possible, can you please say if you have a budget, and are willing to replace your motherboard (This can be complicated if you do not know how to connect all the cables to the motherboard)

I will recommend this processor:

As this is probably (I believe) one of the best FM2+ Socket CPUs.

Thank you for answering!

I do have a budget of roughly £200 but I cant see a motherboard being anymore? Right?
And yes I have an idea of where all the cables go if not I'm sure YouTube may help a little :)

Wont the Intel come with the thermal paste or not because I can apply that myself?

If I were to buy the A10 would that simply replace the A4 or not?

Some Intel CPUs may come with the thermal paste, most of them do, in fact, but some don't. A budget of £200 is pretty good and will allow a good range of CPUs to come into hand.

Few more questions:

What case do you have, so when looking for a motherboard I can get one with a form factor that will fit in the case.

Are you into overclocking? (This may not be a good option due to it being more costly)

Do you care about noise and if so, are you willing to purchase a CPU cooler as well?

Also, what will you be using this desktop for? Gaming, video editing etc?

I don't actually know what my case is but this is my pc, I have added another 8gb ram chip that's how I have 16gb (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UNKRHTE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Yes I do care about noise because my setup at the moment is horribly but I'm working on it.

Yes I would be willing to buy a cpu cooler

I will be using my pc for Gaming but not any of the newer games, I only play Skyrim and old Call Of Duty games ;)

Thanks again

First off, not knowing your case makes it difficult, but as long as you're not overclocking, then the stock CPU cooler will be fine.

For one, Skyrim and Call of Duty don't really require too much CPU usage, and doesn't use too many cores. So I'm looking at a hyperthreaded i3 processor (If you know how to overclock then it would be much better, but that would only be slight if you go for an air cooler. If possible, I may try finding a lower-end quad core i5 processor that will do the job.

I know it's a bit inaccurate, but any chance you could measure the distance between your motherboard and the side of your case so I can see if the CPU cooler will fit.

Currently looking at something like the i3-6100, which is a dual-core, hyperthreaded CPU and is relatively good for the price to performance ratio, but that would require a new motherboard and a kit of DDR4 Ram (Are you willing to do this, I will still be able to keep it under, or a little over the £200 limit.

Also, do you have a certain quality limit and fps that you would like to reach?

I am not really looking for any performance/fps because this cpu gives me the 60 fps on Skyrim and like 120 on most cod games, its just that I don't like the feel of AMD. As long as the i3 is slightly better or roughly the same I would be fine as long as it wasn't AMD :/

Purchasing DDR4 ram is fine with me

My Mother Board sits 15-16cm from the case and the fan sits 9-10 cm

No worries, glad I could help.

I also love Skyrim too, and the graphics are amazing :)

Have a great day!
