My EVGA GTX1080 is arriving today and I will be replacing my ASUS strix gtx970 with it. Ideally I would make a clean windows install... but I am really feeling lazy about installing windows and would like to avoid it if possible.

So what process should I use?... simple swap one card with the other and let it load the drivers?.... Should I uninstall drivers before shutting down and swapping?... I use windows 7 64 bit, and I use the drivers from Nvidia site.

Thanks!

Solution
Replace cards and reinstall drivers (with clean install option checked).

My findings:
* hot swapping from gtx970 to gtx1080 proved no issue.
* installed new drivers checking "clean install". No issue, except Geforce Experience stopped working... it would stay at "checking for updates" forever.
- to fix, uninstalled from windows app manager, and downloaded specific installer for Geforce Experience.

This was a minor issue since most ppl consider it to be bloatware, yet I like to see what configurations it suggests for games.

And last but not least... won the coil lottery!... :(... after half an hour of witcher 3, it started producing coil whine. Bummer... RMAing it today, replacement arrives tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.
