Is it possible for my ethernet port to cause a short in my router and cause it to stop working? When I cabled my pc to my router all of the sudden it's blinking a purple light which I found out means it's defective.

Asrock brand motherboard, Belkin router(not sure of model numbers)

Also should mention it stopped working after power cycling the router

Solution
No you could cut the wire and connect all of them together and it would have no effect In addition the ethernet ports are what is called magnetically isolated from the other electronics in the devices. This means there is no direct connection between any power sources and the ethernet.
