Hi everyone

I am currently in the market to upgrade some PC components. Now, before I digress, here is my current setup at this point

Asus P8z68 V-Pro Gen 3 motherboard
Corsair XMS3 Classic 1600mhz 8GB RAM
Intel Core i5 2500k (stock - for now, but will be OC'ed - again)
EVGA GTX 670 (reference)

I am mainly in the market to purchase a video card at this point - most likely a GTX 1070. And also in the future a 1440p monitor.

Now here is my issue;

1) Do I keep my existing Mobo, CPU, RAM, and flat out purchase a GTX 1070, and hope for the best?
- If I do the above mentioned, will my CPU be bottlenecked by the GPU?

2) Do I keep my existing Mobo, CPU, and upgrade my ram to some 2133mhz and add 8gb to make it 16gb with lower latency, and purchase a GTX 1070?
- I found some nice G Skill with a CAS of 9 at 2133mhz instead of my current CAS of 11 and 1600mhz

I found a very interesting bit here on comparing the old Core i5 2500k vs the latest Skylake i5 6500.

3) Do I upgrade all above components to the latest gen and also buy a gtx 1070?

My system dates quite a few years now, but I feel it's still holding pretty strong to even today's standards - especially with those OC'ed numbers. Based on the above video, I am leaning towards a GPU alongside a RAM upgrade.

I know in the future I will upgrade my system as a whole as it will need a refresh to keep up with newer titles.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Cheers!

The GPU upgrade will definitely give you the biggest improvement in gaming. Keep using the the 2500K until it no longer can do what you want, it will hold the 1070 back very little. More RAM helps if you're running out of RAM, but I would probably hold off on that as well because if you eventually upgrade the CPU and mobo, you will be buying DDR4. Keep in mind to that changing the CPU and motherboard will most likely require a new copy of Windows unless you have a retail version.
