Will an ASUS STRIX 1070 be compatible with a 550W power supply?

I'm trying to help out a friend here, he got an ASUS STRIX 1070 and he's got a MSI 550W Platinum Edition PSU (that's what he told me). Is there any way for it to work properly?

You could probably get away with it and have it work fine. However that's not really a chance I'm comfortable taking. When in doubt get a better psu. A psu can fry your system if it overloads or goes bad. Also I caution against used psu's in all circumstances especially when putting brand new and expensive hardware into a computer. Always better safe than sorry with power supplys. You don't need a massive psu just one that is within a comfortable range.

For more on why you don't need a big psu but shouldn't have a small one...
