Hey, so i'm going to be upgrading my computer in a couple days and need to know what would be most beneficial for my new build in terms of new processor to get. I do intend to overclock and am looking for a lasting processor (2-3 years). So for prices and sources i can get a couple types of processors from a friends business that is clearing out. Here's the prices and types -

- 6700k / £240
- 6700 / £195
- 6600k / £165
- 6500 / £140
- 6400 / £120

I have a maximum spending limit of £170 for a processor at this time. So would it be worth buying a 6600k now and sticking with that? Or buy a 6400 that holds it's value and then upgrade to a 6700k upon my next paycheck?
Ow yeah, it's to go along with these parts -

Cooler Master Hyper 103
Gigabyte G1.Sniper B7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Palit GeForce GTX 1070 8GB JetStream Video Card
Other parts aren't really applicable haha

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Solution
If your main use is for gaming, then the i5-6600k with an overclock will be just as good as a I7-6700K
The reason is that few games can use more than 2-3 threads and bot processors overclock to about the same limits.
As of 5/2016
What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.40v Vcore.

I5-6600K
5.0 2%
4.9 11%
4.8 36%
4.7 64%
4.6 88%

I7-6700K
4.9 2%
4.8 17%
4.7 59%
4.6 93%
4.5 100%

As to the other parts on your list:

Hyper 103 is a poor choice. The 92mm fan will be noisy and you will not be able to oc well.
I would suggest the cryorig H7 or any other tower type cooler with a 120mm fan or better.

Motherboard needs to be a Z170 in order to overclock.

8gb is fine, if you are not heavily multitasking.
but make...
if you are planning to get the 6700k in the future why not just go for the non K version of the 6600 and then upgrade to it later on?

also if you are planning to get a K version to overclock then you will need to find a mobo with a Z series chipset. you cannot overclock on the B7 chipset

but make that a 2 x 4gb kit so you can run in faster dual channel mode.

Thanks for the response. I'll be sure to find a better Cooler and Ram aswell as a new motherboard haha. I'm coming from my dreaded AMD build i've been squeezing life out of so am a bit rough with intel. Appreciate the help.
