I got a newly built computer about a month ago and I've been having some internet problems with it. Some sites will not load at first click and will take several refreshes for it to connect such as Youtube and Facebook. Another problem is when editing a file on Google Drive, I will be put into offline mode and fail to connect. This is for all browsers (Firefox, Edge, Chrome, Explorer). On Microsoft Edge, I can't login to my google account. After entering my username, the "Next" button turns light blue and the page freezes.
The most problematic part about this issue is that only this computer is affected in the house, while my other 2 computers work perfectly fine. Also, I've tried connecting my computer to my cousin's internet, and it works fine.

Is this a computer problem or is it my internet at fault?

Solution

Very strange that moving to the modem did not fix thing, I was pretty sure you had a wiring issue since the system works fine in other areas. You checked for updated network card driver? You may want to have the ISP reset the modem.

Normally if a system does not work in one place, but works fine in another, there is some issue with where it is, but we ruled out everything really by connecting it up to the modem. Maybe try a new Windows setup on a spare drive, see if you have something strange with the software. But...

U answered your own question.

If it works for everybody else except your box, then the problem is... TADA... YOUR BOX.

I only use wired ethernet. The computer doesnt have a wifi adapter card installed. Also, when going under Network Connections in adapter settings, I don't see Local Area Connection 2. Only Ethernet 2 is listed.

I got a technician to come in from my ISP, and they suggested that it was the computer's fault as every other computer works in the house except this one. However, I've also sent the computer back to its builders and they blamed my internet connection since it worked fine using their internet. Also, the computer worked fine when connecting to my cousin's internet.
Each side would put the fault towards each other and I couldn't get a solid answer.

@jsmithepa The cable is connected from my computer to a router that connects to a wall outlet that leads to the modem which then goes to the ISP

@maikutech I'm using a Cat-5e

I gave them a call and they did some tests on their end. Everything was fine from what they saw and there wasn't a problem with the connection. Speedtest results show that there's nothing wrong with the connection yet I still have problems connecting to some sites, where my internet is constantly "Connecting to server" with no success, giving me a blank white page.
I'll be sending my computer back to its builders in a few days for another reservice and have them reload my OS this time.

Could you think of anything like a computer setting that would prevent specifically my computer from connecting specifically to my internet? All computers are connected through ethernet to the same router leading to the modem. I've gotten a few tech people that called my situation weird or unique -- quite frustrating lol

If you know what os you have at the moment, I could spare you the repair bill and aggrevation of some computer company.
Its hard to say what might be the real problem though, if your internet connections works wonder elsewhere.
At home it does not work correctly on a ethernet cord, to rule that out completely.
Borrow or buy a wireless apdapter from target-walmart install the drivers and try it again.

Somewhere in the back of my cerebral cortex, it's blinking Packet-Loss - Packet-Loss - Packet-Loss. But that's all I have for you.

May wanna go into Best Buys and ask the Geeks Squad: Do you have a network expert in the premisses that can make an house call? How much? Talk to him and quickly layout your problem, specially the part where ISP is pointing fingers at your hardware and the hardware people are pointing fingers at your ISP, and see if he seems confidence a house call will make a difference.

Before you do that though, give you again my standard reply to almost every problem: ALWAYS USE DRIVER FROM MOBO'S VENDOR, NOT MICROSOFT.

@maikutech I got a WiFi adapter compatible with my OS (Win 10) and I went through the installation process via the CD-ROM and tried connecting to my WiFi. I was able to connect but it would show "No internet, Secured" and show a yellow exclamation point on the WiFi icon on the taskbar. Also, I replugged my ethernet cable after taking out the WiFi adapter and I was given "No internet" while connected to ethernet. That was fixed after restarting my computer but my weird connection issue is still present. I tried installing the WiFi adapter on another computer and was able to connect to the WiFi successfully. I'm now planning on reloading my OS soon and refund the adapter (unless you'd like me to try some other things with the adapter).

@jsmithepa I only have the drivers from my MSI motherboard and I'll consider contacting Geek Squad if even an OS reload doesn't fix the issue. Thanks :)

Your wifi adapter card should be able to pick up on your router in your home.
Click on the network icon found in the system tray, see what available connections there is.
If you see yours click it and have it connect, if you or your family setup a password make sure to enter it in correctly.
Now if all of that does work and your internet is still messed up on your end.

The other way to fix it is to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch by reinstalling windows 10.

I am going through what might be the same issue right now.
Ethernet quit on my home theater PC, but works for every other machine around the house.

I went to walmart bought a Belkin n300 (model: F9L1002) wifi adapter, and still no luck.
I just get "No Internet, Secured" when connecting it to my wifi router & to my neighbors.

This issue started after installing an Asus GTX 1080 video card.
Any chance you have one of those in your recent build?

System components:
  • cpu: AMD fx-8350
    mobo: M5A99FX Pro R2.0
    ram: 32GB G.skill Sniper
vga: Asus gtx 1080 strix (problem arose immidiately after installation)
    os: Windows 10 Pro
ethernet: onboard nic of M5A99FX Pro R2.0
    wifi: Belkin n300 (model: F9L1002)
    Internet: Brighthouse via Arris router

The solutions provided by the Microsoft website didn't work so I reinstalled my OS but without success. My problem still persists so Im assuming that there must be something wrong with the internet as my computer is still able to work fine at my cousin's house with their internet.

@WillyBsCell00 Ita such a complicated problem as some sites work perfectly fine while others have trouble with slow or no connection.
The build I have consists of:
CPU: Intel i7 6700K
Mobo: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB)
GPU: MSI GTX 960
OS: Windows 10 Home

Could I please see your network and sharing connection window please ?
Your local area connection should be working, if so it will say connected to the internet.
Click on the start button, click on search, type network and sharing center.

You might want to give this a real good look and try them, the ping test will verify if your internet connection is persistent or not.
@Alin: I know you need help because you might have the same problem but please open up your own thread and ask for help.
Currently this op needs it at the moment, as for both of your vga drivers installation.
You may not like this idea and you will hate me for the next week, but uninstall the nvidia drivers.
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/105851
Install this driver for your os, do not install nvidia hd audio driver, do not install anything else.
All you want is the vga driver, physix driver no nvidia gaming experience as the control panel for the drivers does much better without it.
Once its done reboot, least that way you shouldn't have anything internet related from the nvidia driver pack.

I've done a few ping tests to websites like google, youtube and others and they all looked similarly to this, with no packets lost:

Although everything seems fine, I still get this error:

I'm still unable to connect to the server.
Also, I followed your directions and uninstalled my nvidia drivers and downloaded the one provided in that link and only downloaded Graphics Driver and PhysX System Software.

I think that's normal for it to show Network 2 since my other computers show Network 3 and Network 4 and they work fine. I'm assuming it just relates to their position when connected to the router. This computer's connected to the 2nd slot, and the others are connected to 3rd and 4th slot. I've already tried connecting my computer to a different slot but that didn't work.

If moving the system around makes it work, seems like the issue is somewhere in the line of connection from the modem to your computer. If other systems work fine, test yours in their area on the same cable as that good system is.

If that does not work for some reason, test the system connected directly to the modem, bypass the router. Connect the computer to the modem, reboot, see if it works. You may need to reboot your modem and router again to sync them when you are done testing.

I've tried using the ethernet cable connected to a working computer, and I've tried directly plugging into the wall outlet that leads to the modem in the basement, both to no success. Done multiple reboots of both computer and modem but it didn't work.

I got my ISP tech to come in today and he replaced my modem. It helped very slightly as Youtube videos no longer stop loading in the middle of the video, except the comments still have trouble loading as it'll take multiple (4-6) refreshes to get it to load. However, Google Drive remains not connectable as shown in a previous screenshot and Facebook will still sometimes disconnect and messages will take a few refreshes to load.

Since replacing the modem did help to a tiny extent, the tech couldn't figure out what changed that allowed the internet connection to be even slightly more reliable. Any suggestions?
