Hi

I installed Overdrive, auto clock status seems to be locked or not responding, this even after fresh installs/downloads. Looking to overclock to 4.0 from my 2.8 in order for the cpu to get closer to gpu. I've got no real knowladge on overclocking hence me trying to use overdrive.

Nothing I do seems to get the status "window" going. Please help.

System:
CPU - AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1055T Processor
GPU - Sapphire OC RX 470 4GB
Motherboard - MSI 970A - G43
10GB RAM
Cooler - Antec A40 Pro Cpu Cooler
Windows 10 64 bit

Thank You in Advance !

Solution
Try setting CPU Ratio to 15.5

Leave NB Ratio where it is, same for HT Link.

If that proves to be stable and your CPU stays under 75C at load, try raising the CPU Ratio to 16. Simply keep progressing by .5 until you reach your preferred speed or the CPU becomes unstable.

Figuring out what speed you will achieve is simple. Your CPU Base speed is 200MHz, your multiplier does what it sounds like it would do, it multiplies that speed. 1GHz is roughly 1000MHz, so 200MHz*14 is 2800MHz (2.8GHz). 200MHz*15.5 is 3100MHz (3.1GHz). Once you get used to it, you'll see that it's really simple math.
Please uninstall AMD overdrive. I do not recommend software overclocks, they produce too much heat because they give the CPU way too much voltage.

Once uninstalled, restart normally then restart into BIOS. An easy way to get to BIOS through Windows: Press Windows+i to open Settings, click Update and Security > Recovery > Advanced Startup. There will be a menu when it restarts, you want to get to BIOS, it may be labeled firmware settings.

https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/970A-G43.html#down-manual

Please download your manual and start at page 52. Pages 53-58 explain the overclocking features of your BIOS.

Once you get where you want to be in BIOS, please tell me the CPU ratio from BIOS.

You may want to have the manual open on a separate machine so you can look at it while in BIOS.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the HowToLink tip, fixed it.

BIOS settings as follows in STANDARD (ignoring ECO and OCGENIE from now on)
CPU Ratio is Auto in BIOS but seems to be running at x4.00 (in control centre)

Question4.png

CPU Ratio is 4.00 to 14.00
NB Ratio is 4.00 to 20.00
HT Link 1.00 to 13.00

Anything else you need?
Thanks again.

Solution
If you reach the limit of what you can get to by using the multiplier, then set the multiplier to the highest whole number that is stable and start raising the CPU FSB speed. This will increase the Base Clock (default 200MHz).

The Base Clock should be used for fine tuning and should not be set above 225MHz. Please note that raising the base clock will dramatically raise CPU temperatures as well as motherboard VRM temperatures.

Thank you again.

CPU Ratio only goes to 14.00?

Lastly do you think 4GHz is too much and/or will there be any long term major issues at 4?
