Hi all,

I'm currently using a GTX 570 with the Asus M5A99X EVO 990X Socket AM3+ 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard. The board itself is PCI Express 2.0. Would this board work with a PCI Express 3.0 GPU? Like something in the GTX 7 series?

Also, is there not a PCI Express 3.0 motherboard that will work with an AM3+ CPU? I found the SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 but it appears to be out of stock in the UK. Do ASUS even make a PCI Express 3.0 motherboard? Or is it time to move to Intel?

Thanks

Solution
that's the board that supports it but its $179 give or take still and you wont see any performance difference upgrading to that board. pcie 3.0 cards work in pcie2.0 slots with virtually no difference in performance.

both my cards are pcie 3.0 capable .

just trying to not make you waste your money, the board you have does just as well as the 990fx sabertooth board I have, I only bought it since there was an open box deal a long time ago for $120 which was a steal

No one makes a PCI Express 3.0 board for the AM3+ motherboards but with that in mind there really isn't any performance difference between 2.0 and 3.0 since nothing can actually use all of that bandwidth.

Is it time to move to Intel? Well if you even need to ask that question then you already know the answer.

the asus gen 3 board was the only pcie 3.0 board regardless you wont see much of a difference between the two. 3.0 is backwards compatible to 2.0 etc

I'm searching around for this Asus Gen 3 board but unable to find it. Can you link it perhaps? I'm not doubting you I just never seen it.
