Note: there is (Temperature 2 offset) too...

Can you hear the fan run at all?

It's pretty clear that you're in over your head, so let's make this as simple as possible.

Download and install Core Temp - http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Your laptop should idle with core temperatures in the mid to high 40's. Even at dead idle, you should be able to hear the fan occasionally cycle on and off.

If your core temperatures at idle are higher than mid to high 40's and you can't detect any fan activity, then it's likely that your cpu fan has failed and needs to be replaced.
Firstly, set pwm control to software under the options tab.

Offsets adjust the readings if u know they are not correct. Wouldn't worry about then.

Main thing is to set your gpu and CPU fan speeds based on a temp profile in the fan control tab. You will also want to go into the temps tab and assign various temps to fan speeds.

I've used it for years and there is no software as good in terms of detailed control of all fans based on whatever temp sensors you desire.

Justaguywhodoesntknowanything,

Welcome to Tom's!

I read your Private Message. Before I provide an answer to this Thread, I would respectfully like to suggest that you re-think your choice of Member Username.

Assuming you learn something here at Tom's, you may sometime down the road regret having branded yourself with the name you've chosen.

Now to answer your questions, as burgessanthony has already mentioned, SpeedFan is a great utility. It's highly configurable, however, there's a bit of a learning curve, so it's not for the squeamish. Once you master it and get it tweaked in, it's really sweet. I've also been using it for many years and find it indispensable.

Concerning Temperature 1 and the various other temperature sensors, SpeedFan will assigned names and parameter values to sensors according to your motherboard make and model, as well as other hardware such as the processor, chipset, VRM's, HDD, SSD, graphics card, fans and so on. The names that SpeedFan chooses don't always make sense, but once you positively identify your hardware devices, you can re-name them to whatever you like by a simple right-click.

Concerning temperature Offsets, it's not recommended to change the default values. After you have gained a thorough understanding of the temperatures at which various hardware elements are typically expected to operate, then you might consider changing an offset value IF you're certain that it's not accurate.

To get yourself up to speed on SpeedFan, see the following:

(1) In your Windows Start Menu, go to the SpeedFan Program Group and click on "Help and HOW-TO".

(2) SpeedFan Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) - http://www.almico.com/sffaq.php

You might also Google up YouTube videos as well as other SpeedFan tutorials and information.

Good luck!

Many owners leave their computers run 24/7/365, which puts needless hours on moving parts such as hard drive spindle bearings and fan bearings, and contributes significantly to premature failures. The other side-effect is that the longer fans run, the more dust they collect, which for a laptop, also means clogging up the CPU cooler's fins.

Good Job! :D
