Hi, I am going to build a new pc. I like amd cpu and gpu. However, I have heard they are going to release the new cpu and motherboard this year. So is it a good idea to buy amd cpu and motherboard now? It's pretty cheap, a FX-8370 = 200 and a MSI gaming 970 MB = 100. So total is 300. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was referring to high end Polaris GPUs that are scheduled for 2017. The RX 480 is only midrange by today's standards. I edited it to clarify though, so thanks for pointing that out.

I also agree with what was said about Skylake. When it first debuted I advised Haswell over it due to high prices, but now you can get a i5 6500 for $205, and a Z170 MB for $90. Plus the DDR4 RAM has come down in price and latency.

Here's the way I see it OP, it only makes sense to buy now if you have enough money for the entire PC and don't have anything adequate to use currently. If not, wait until you have...

No, Zen will be much more powerful, 40% more power per core. The current models aren't good for gaming really. They play some games well, but if you look at gaming holistically, they can't keep up with Intel.

Word is Zen is supposed to debut Q4 2016, so if you're intent on AMD, I would wait for that. IMO their current GPUs are not as good as Intel either, at least not at the high end. The problem with that, is AMD's high end Polaris won't be out until 2017.

That said, you seem to be only interested in lower price points, and we have yet to see what Zen chips will start at.

No, right now AMD CPUs are not a good buy. $300 will usually(depends on location) get you a faster i5 cpu motherboard and ddr4 ram. If you feel you must build with an AMD cpu wait for Zen which is suppose to start releasing at the end of the year.

Not a high end gamer. Don't have thousands buck floating around. If I choose Intel, any recommendation on the cpu(around 200-300) and motherboard? I will still go for the rx 480 4g since I only play on 1080p.
Thank you all

That's funny since the $295 scenario I pointed out using a i5 6500, and $90 Z170 (AsRock), is actually cheaper than the $300 scenario you suggested, AND better for all around gaming than an FX CPU.

Are you even paying attention? You come here asking for advice, then smugly thumb your nose at sound suggestions.

Go ahead, buy an AMD CPU. Living and learning by trial and error is the only way some people do things I guess.
