Hi all,

I have recently experienced a very frustrating issue to do with my pc, whereby it has become completely unusable due to not being able to use a keyboard and mouse with it.

I get two red crosses appearing in the bottom right of the screen over the speakers and internet plug icon and the computer starts fine, but there is no cursor on the screen to be found and NONE of the USB ports work, meaning I cannot use the keyboard and mouse to do anything. Nothing even happens when I plug in my USB headphones in, or even when I plug in normal 3.5mm jack headhphones.

I am running Windows 10 with a GA-Z77-D3H motherboard. These are the things I have tried so far:
-Cleaned out the PC with pressured air
-Tried to clear the CMOS on the motherboard manually(by taking out the CMOS battery for 5 mins)
-Replacing the motherboard, the exact same result occurs where I can't do anything.
-Enabling and disabling the USB configuration settings in the BIOS
-Left the computer on for over 10 hours to see if any updates would happen

I would appreciate any advice or help that I get, as I am genuinely on my last nerve not having a computer to use whilst at home.

Many thanks,

Hello,

Just removing the battery as you tried, doesn't always work. You may have to perform a Factory Reset. If you look in your motherboard manual, it will explain which two pins on the motherboard you need to temporarily jump to do this. If that doesn't solve your problem. From the problem you are having, I'm worried that you might have a motherboard problem.
Your MB uses USB3 Etron EJ168 Controller which should be enabled by default in Bios for the output ports on the rear IO panel. There are Front panel variations of course depending on the Tower case.

Is this what you checked and configured in Bios.?
Check all cables and connections to USB3 ports.

Your Bios and chipset driver may need an update depending on your MB revision as clearing CMOS has not worked. Check Intel for driver updates and at GIGABYTE support website for Bios update.

But how would I go about installing and updating these drivers on my computer without being able to control my mouse and keyboard?

Do you have a PS2 keyboard to try.?
Have you tried connecting to a USB2 port.?
I think you also have to switch EHCI to enabled in the BIOS on some MBs.
If still no luck then contact Gigabyte support for help or RMA as it should work with a PS2.
It would be a Bios config or driver issue or the USB3 ports are dead.
I can't think of any other solution.
I did find one other solution that has worked for some: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility
