I'm building a PC and am going to use an old hard drive with Windows on it and want to wipe it and install Windows 10. Problem is, every tutorial on the entire internet suggests that you would never be using a laptop drive, which I am. It's hard to wipe it when widows fights me at every corner to stay on my PC, as its my boot drive. So I have tried DBAN but it won't boot from a USB or CD/DVD as it isn't supported by the bios. I would ask that you not try to find a solution to my bios problem and help me figure out other ways to wipe this *. Someone said that when I try to install Windows 10 I can choose a clean install or something like that and it will wipe and format the drive prior to installation. HELP MEH

once you have the new pc built and hdd installed. boot to your windows install disk/usb and from there format the drive. no need to do it before then.

no reason not to use the hdd from the laptop other than it is likely slower than a desktop hdd for power saving issues. otherwise it will work fine. i have one in a pc at my house as a data storage drive i got form an old laptop as well. it has no problems, it's just smaller than the full size desktop hdd also in the system
