Is 8GB of DDR2 RAM good enough for a 20-40 player minecraft server?

If you are not playing yourself (or play on another PC) that should be enough. But if you do all on one rig you should upgrade.

Its doubtful. Depending on the server, playercount, and chunks loaded 8GB will not be enough (let alone the slower speeds of DDR2).
If you are aiming for such a high player count you should have more overhead RAM.

Another thing to consider is the processor being used, if it only support DDR2 its probably not great.

you would want something like 32GB ram for that amount of players, i doubt ddr2 had DIMMs that dense, and you would want it to be high speed ram.

Depends on the type, speeds, and size.

What are the specs you are planning?
Again, the processor is important too.
