Hello,

Hardware being used:
ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO Mobo
i7--6700K CPU
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
XFX 850 Watt Black Edition PSU
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Memory Kit Model CMK32GX4M2A2666C16 (2 kits for 64GB total)
New case: Corsair 230T, had the standoffs preinstalled to I left them

I have built many many systems so this isn't my first time. I usually have no problem troubleshooting "no boots" ect. I know the drill and I read the "read this before posting no posting problems" on the forums. I did get some good ideas but most were things I already tried. I'm posting for other ideas but I may end up RMAing the board. Sigh.

My steps:
Long story short, I installed everything as always, and turned on the PC. As we all know, that's the point you hold your breath, hah. So, the PC didn't start. Crap, so that's why I'm here, obviously. :)

So, I start my troubleshooting and follow all the usual steps (which usually leads me to go "oh crap, I forgot to put in the 4 or 8 pin CPU power, didn't seat the RAM correctly, or the Video card wasn't pressed down.") Nothing. All the "usuals" checked out just fine.

Next, I took out the mobo from the case after unhooking all connections from all drives, ect. I left in the processor and RAM. The only thing "connected" to the mobo is just the 8 pin CPU power and the mobo power. Turned it on w/ the "Start" button, did the same thing. The CPU and PSU fans start for about a millisecond and turn off. The mobo lights are still on. I downloaded the latest BIOS and did the ASUS flashback update to get the mobo to the latest BIOS. The update worked as I got all the 'flashing lights' and the BIOS finished updating. I turned off the power, then powered it back on. Same thing. Nothing. I took out the RAM and tried again, nothing. I took off the CPU fan/heatsync, took out the CPU, made sure it was matching arrows correct, it was fine. I checked all the heatsync anchors to the mobo and all was good. I cleaned off all the paste and put on new paste. Installed the CPU, cleared CMOS. I turned it back on (outside the case again, just the power connected), does the same thing, starts for a millisecond, turns back off. All the mobo lights are still on but nothing is running. Only thing still on the mobo is the CPU and power.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Solution
Do you have another PSU you could test with? The XFX unit should be solid, but any component/brand can see an item slip through QC without being caught.

Yep, good question but I did look for bent pins, forgot to mention that during my CPU reinstallation step. I also checked the bottom of the processor to make sure there was no dirt or anything. Was clean.

I haven't tried w/ one stick of RAM as I assumed I would get an error w/o any but got the same thing as if I had them all in there.

Also forgot to mention that there is no error code on the LED error code on the mobo. It doesn't even have time to post one. Also, no "beeps" or anything like that. Just a REALLY quick fan start/stop on the PSU and the CPU fan, than dead. Just the mobo lights stay on :(.

I have an OCZ 700 Watt laying around somewhere. The XFX 850 in the case now, I just pulled out of my AMD system and it was working in that one w/ a ga-990fxa-ud3 mobo. I have only had the XFX 850 for 3 months so it's pretty "newish."

I tried the one slot RAM and still did the same thing. Worth a shot. :)

Wow. I'm REALLY surprised. You were right on the PSU. I would have NEVER guessed that was an issue. My 3 month old (that JUST worked hours ago) XFX 850 W Black Edition didn't work, but I used the OCZ 700 W that's from an older system and years older, and the mobo is running (nothing is plugged in though).

So, do I need to RMA the XFX 850 PSU? Is this an RMA-able thing? No idea why the PSU would work hours ago on my old system but not work on the new Intel system. Eek!! What do you think?

OMG, well first time for everything. So, if anyone else experiences a problem like this, don't make a noob mistake like I did and accidentally unplug the mobo power connection that connects to the PSU while transferring it to a new case. One of the mobo power connectors was still connected to the PSU, the other wasn't, there are 2. That's why it was getting power, but not FULL power.

Wow. Idiot lesson learned, had no issues or problems at all. It's the little things. I only wanted to post to share in case someone else has a similar issue.

More detail: A lot of newer PSUs let you take away extra cables you don't need connected to it. So, they can also slip out apparently. Just check this if you are having a problem like this. Should have been a super easy fix. Ugh.

Thanks for the help Barty1884, you lead me to this 'discovery.' :)
