GPU clock goes beyond boost Mhz?

So i just noticed that my MSI gtx 970 is going beyond the boost mhz in some games(witcher 3 and overwatch, maybe more but i havent checked). I dont know if this happened before because i didnt bother looking at the clocks since i have no problems for the 2 years i have been using the card. And i cant say i know exactly what it means. I just find it weird that it goes beyond the boost clock without me OC the card. Everything else looks normal. Can someone explain why this happens?

Likely, the game demands more graphics power, and the gpu has thermal and voltage headroom to deliver it.
I have evga precision active on a side monitor.
I occasionally see the load go a touch past the official boost number when the temperature is not high.
Not a problem I think.

Thats what my guess is too. The temp can get as high as 70C, but its ok considering that the fans start at 60C and its 30-40C outside. Also i checked again in case i increased the Mhz and both are at 0 so thats not it. And its not like the increase in the Mhz its huge, the boost is around 1280 so i get like 50mhz. Plus i checked that there is an msi version of 970(the gold edition or something) that has the boost at 1300+. So my guess is that either MSI Afterburner is bugging out and shows wrong numbers (doubt it) or basicly what you said, it just gives more for demanding games. And its not like the boost point is a limit that you cant go above.
