Graphics card not detected

So I just built a new pc for the first time, but the computer is not detecting the graphics card (GTX 1070) and it's running on integrated graphics. I have the monitor plugged into the card, and the logo is lit up on the card, so I know it is working to some extent. Could anyone help me out here?

Have you installed the drivers ?

Change integrated gpu to dedicated. There should be an option in your BIOS

My display card is listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter in device manager, and every time I try to update it, it says "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software to your device.

You don't install a graphics card driver that way.
You install it from the driver cd (it's in the box) or you download it from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us .
