what cpu do you have now? the q6600? not sure if it came with any other cpu's or not.

i run one with the q6600 myself

edit: dell page says the following cpu's are supported
Processor Type
Intel® Core™2 Duo and Core™2 Extreme processors up to 130W
Families
Conroe, Kentsfield, Wolfdale and Yorkfield

would have to look and see which cpu's these are but even the q9*** series is not much of a step up over the q6600 and would not be worth the cost.

Yea currently running the q6600, when playing games the computer freeze. Has a fresh install of windows 7 64bit. Still has standard psu but have a 500watt psu to put in. Is there any upgrades i could do to improve my game play?

i upgraded my gpu to an r9-270 and it games rather well. i have win 7 and win 10 64 bit running on it no problems.

that's with the stock 375w psu by the way. at the time the 270 was the strongest gpu i could run on the stock psu. but now there are plenty of other options.

you have a 6-pin power lead so the new rx-470 is in play as is the new gtx 1060 cards. most of them also only use a 6-pin connection and use less power than the 270 i have now. (mine is a 150w card)

honestly a cpu upgrade is not worth it as a q9*** won't be much of a boost over the q6600. but a new gpu would give it a nice boost. multi-player and cpu heavy games will still have trouble but that is the nature of gaming on an 8 yr old system.

at least you got rid of vista with it's horrible drivers. but a fresh driver install never hurts. a fresh coat of thermal paste on the cpu would not hurt either. as old as the system is, if you have never done it, it should be replaced.

try some hardware monitoring to see if the temps are getting high for the cpu. could explain the freezing as well.
