Cup cooler loose!

I was trying to place my motherboard down into the case, and the stock cpu cooler came off for a brief second. Do I need to buy new thermal paste or anything? It was only loose for half a second at least!

Brand new system?
If it was just applied I would not worry, the paste is still soft enough to even back out. There is a chance of air being stuck, but for a stock cooler it really wont matter.

Just make sure it stays on.

Is the cooler supposed to be so loose? The pushpins only go in 2 directions, I turned them the way the arrows showed and the cooler is still loose

They're supposed to go through and come out the other side, push down harder till you hear a clicking/snapping sound of them popping through the wholes.
