My specs now are:
CPU: AMD FX-4170 Quad-Core Processor, 4400 Mhz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
RAM: 8 GB

And I plan to upgrade that to:
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600k
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060

Will my current motherboard be compatible, or will I need to buy a new one?

Contrary to that, you are going from an AMD CPU to an Intel CPU, so you will at the very least need a new motherboard...if the old RAM is DDR3, you will need to make sure the motherboard you get is able to use it, or you will also need to buy new DDR4 RAM
