My birthday is coming up soon and I plan on buying a GTX 1070. I was wondering if my hardware is compatible with it, or if my computer will be able to handle the new card. My current specs are,

CPU: AMD FX-6100
PSU: EVGA 600W
RAM: Mushkin (1x8GB) (2x4GB)
MOBO: MSI 970A-G43 (MS-7693)
Storage: 1TB hard drive
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Thanks in advance. Recommended part upgrades to be compatible with the new GPU would be appreciated.

If I can chime in, I think that the 1060 would be the best choice for you right now and move on to a intel cpu, btw the 8350 is beaten by the i3 6100 in gaming which if you think about it its a pretty bad bottleneck because the 6100 is one of the slowest skylake chips out there.

I would put my money into a 1060 and buy a h110 and a 6500 if your on a budget or if you can just a bit more, go for a z170 and a 6600k or a 6700k

To be honest i wouldn't use GTX 1070 with your current hardware. From motherboard to CPU, i would go with much better hardware. But if you want to built a new computer for GTX 1070 first thing is you need to spend lots of money. And if you decide spend money you may need to change all the part of your computer.(Talking with specs that you wrote)

I knew I would need upgrades. I'm asking what hardware upgrades you would recommend for this PC to function with a GTX 1070. I know I need a MOBO and CPU upgrade, do you have any recommendations?

What's your resolution?

A lot of people seem to think their CPU is what matters when pairing a GPU, but the truth is more complicated, and more dependent on your resolution. The problem is at lower resolutions, a fast GPU will mostly only be needed for high FPS, but slow CPU's prevent you from achieving high FPS. However, at a high resolution, a fast GPU will still be taxed enough to not hit high FPS, where a slower CPU won't hinder it.

So if you are using a 4K monitor, go for it. If you are using a 1080p monitor, then don't (either it's 60hz and you'd not need the power for 60 FPS, or it's 144hz and your CPU would hold back performance to prevent you from taking advantage of it).

I know my motherboard will not work with the 1070, do you think it could handle the 1060 or RX 480? Also I plan on upgrading my CPU to an FX 8350.

an overclocked 8350 would still not let those cards stretch their legs fully

but still, either 1060 or rx 480 would be a huge upgrade for you ( 1060 is faster if their price is similar where you live )

Okay I've decided that I will go for these parts.

CPU: I5-6500
MOBO: h110
GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1060 AMP Edition

Please let me know if these parts will work good with each other or if any part will bottleneck another. Thanks again.

this will be a really good match for the 1060, but if you plan on getting any other 1151 socket chips that can overclock and stuff, the h110 chipset will start to limit you on what you can do so i would go with a z170 chipset but if that goes out of your budget i think the h110 is a proper choice for you
