Evga gtx 1060 SC safe temps?

Hello, I purchased and installed a evga gtx 1060 sc today and am wondering if the temps i am getting are normal and safe, I have been running benchmarks in 3dmark and getting a high of 83C. Is this normal, this is the small version of this card so I know it is expected to run hot, im just wondering how how hot exactly

Actually 83C is the temp at which Turbo 3.0 boost technology is at work to prevent the chip ever exceeding this temp. My 'reference card' gtx 1060 does exactly the same(No OC). In other words the clock speed (MHz) runs at max until 83C reached then is throttled back to maintain 83C max. Ideally you need to keep the temp below this point otherwise you may be loosing performance. Try tweaking the fan curve with EVGA Presicion OX, to keep below 80C say. Unigene vally benchmark is a good test.

I mean it's hot but not necessarily dangerously hot. Graphics cards can handle 90-95 degrees without dying, a great example being the Fermi series of Nvidia cards, famous for running hot. Though those temps are not recommended, of course. What's your case airflow like in terms of intake/exhaust fans?

whoops meant to hit reply lol, anyway I have what I would assume is called the asus M51bc case. My pc was originally a prebuilt and I havent replaced the case, it does NOT have enough room for anything else I could put in it. Thats why the airflow isn't the best.

I found with my reference card gtx 1060 ( with standard factory fan speed setting) that at 83C the fan was only running at 44% (No wonder I was being throttled back from 1835 MHz to 1709MHz!) Tweaking it to 55%@80C meant that I could loop Unigine Valley (1080/Extreme HD) and maintain a steady 1835MHz.

yeah, don't worry about going 82 - 83 C* your fan at this point is still doing only 40% to 50% of it's rpm's if you want to cool the card down, just get msi afterburner install it, go to settings open a fan tab and tick 'enable user define software automatic fan control' play with the graph a little bit to find an optimal fan speed for certain temperature.

if you go 80-100% fan speed it will be crazy loud and will shorten the fan lifespan, on the other hand, prolonging your GPU's chip life. So better louder then sorry I guess aahahah
