Hey there! I am building a machine as we speak.

Mobo: Gigabyte Z170x-UD5

I have two 8 GB ddr4 sticks that im getting ready to plug in and the manual is confusing the hell out of me.

From left to right the the slots go 4,2,3,1

In the book it states that Channel A is 4+2 and Channel B is 3+1

But looking at the motherboard its color coded from left to right, black, grey, black grey.

Do I use the books instructions and use the two on the far left, channel 4+2 = A = Black+gray

Or Do I go by the color coding and use the first two grey slots on the right 1+3=b? = Grey+grey

Solution

It can matter. Having your two RAM sticks in the same channel will allow them to run Dual Channel mode, which makes them significantly faster.
