Can I take this part off the motherboard?

I am installing a hyper t4 on the msi z170-a motherboard and the bracket is getting cought on this black thing to the left. If I give a little force it will squeeze in.

Can I just leave the black thing off or should I put it back on? Is it okay if they are touching?

That's likely a cooler... touching it won't hurt, putting a pressure could force it to lose contant with the cooled components, esp. long term. But "left side" is really uncertain... depends how the board is rotated, so pls take a screenshot, circle the black thing mentioned and put here a link.

The black wavy plastic piece that is about an inch tall on the left of the socket.

We ended up getting it installed. We unscrewed " the black thing " to get the cooler installed. Installing " the black thing " was pretty easy after the cooler was installed. They are touching but it doesnt seem to be putting alot of pressure on it.

Is this okay?
