Hi folks, in less than a week my old man is traveling to the USA, so this is the best chance to get a new GPU , since these are too expensive in my homeland.( I currently have a 7970 that im still trying to sell ) so i was thinking to buy the gtx 1060 or 1070 of nvdia , or the rx 480/ 470 of amd, is 470 enough? the idea is to have a future proof GPU and the most powerful for gaming at 1080p, i have a budget of 500 USD. im using now a dell u2414h monitor so maybe in the future I could sell it and get a 1440p one. I have found these models , could you help me choose? :
r 390 https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=r9+390&rh=i:aps,k:r9+390
r 470 ( almost all out of stock): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=470+amd&N=-1&isNodeId=1
Rx 480: https://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-NITRO-GDDR5-11260-01-20G/dp/B01J1M4CZG

id appreciate your help and I look forward to your reply

If it we're my choice based on all the reviews and the fact I feel Nvidia are faster at releasing new drivers for newly released games Id opt for the 1070, especially if you plan to go 1440p later.

If you plan to go 1440p I would not go lower than a 1070 or 480.

If you could get enough budget for a 1070, by all means go for it. It's pretty future proof and runs extremely fast especially after overclocking. If you would want to use less budget now and upgrade later, I recommend to get RX480 4GB, which performs like a GTX 980 in many titles and faster than 970 in almost all games. And RX480 also comes with all the latest features.

Thanks for your input guys, I’m from Chile and here 1070 costs 250 dollars more than in the US, 480 is at almost 400 bucks and there is a shortage also, no relatives/friends are travelling to US any time soon so this is a one-time chance to get a convenient GPU upgrade.
International warranty could be an important factor as well, are MSI and EVGA the only ones that have this? If my dad could test the card on the store it would save us from a bad surprise. He is going to Washington first and then to Denver, i think the former has more PC stores.
Another option is I could save a bit on the GPU by going for a 480 and put the spare cash on an SSD , monitor or whatnot, but these are not a priority right now and they can wait for a next time, don’t you think?
I’m worried the 1070 at 1080p gaming would be overkill and if it hits above 60fps my monitor won’t be able to make the most out of it, ( cuz of the 60hz) Would It be useless then? maybe i should get a 144hz screen but that’s another topic. On the other hand I might just increase the AA a bit more and have a card that will last longer
Seems everyone favors nvidia this time and i mostly agree with you. Now it’s time to choose the 1070 model, which one would be the best choice? What do I have to look for in this card? Looking forward to hearing from you

What aboout the monitor upgrade? is Gsync too much compared to Freesync? the problem is i cant buy good cards on good prices every year, so 1070 would last more and could be more possible to sell in my country. Also 480 are almost all out of stock, in that case id have to get a 470 and this one is the less future proof of all? Thanks for your help
