Corsair H55 Cooler Temps with 4670k

I bought a H55 cooler today to replace my stock cooler, and honestly expected much better temperatures then what I'm getting. On the box it states that they have a 3770k running at 42 degrees under full load, and 25 at idle. I know that's practically reaching for the stars, but I'm getting around 35 degrees idle and under load I'm pushing close to 90 degrees. Even for an entry level cooler this seems a little too high, especially when idle temps weren't too much different with the stock cooler. I'm currently not running an overclock, but I was at 4.0GHz and didn't really notice any difference in temperatures when removing the OC. I have everything installed correctly, the fan is being used as a intake at the moment, as that's what corsair suggests with the radiator tubing downwards. I've reapplied the thermal paste twice, and made sure everything is fastened and seated correctly with still no increase in temperatures. Hopefully someone can give some insight!

Which prime 95? Dont think it can be newer than 26.6.

OCCT is better, to me, and has the monitoring built in.

Might trade the cooler for another one in case yours is working not quite right.

Wow these are indeed high temps, i've got the 4690K oc'd to 4.1Ghz with the same cooler and my max temp under full load is 55°C (idle 26°C).

Are you sure the pump of the cooler is working and connected to CPU OPT fan connector? You can check if the pumps working buy listening closely when you start up the computer. You will hear liquid going through the tubing right after you press the button.

During your OC did you change voltages? maybe even without the OC your voltages are way too hihg which causes these high temps?

How old was your thermal paste? the thermal paste can dry out and loose it's efficiency.

Further i can't see why you are getting these high temps if averything is connected in the right way with thermal paste properly applied.

Hope this helps!

Wow you're lucky! Yeah I can hear the pumps working, even when the computer is running if i listen carefully enough I can hear some liquid passing through.
No didn't change any voltages when I did the overclock as it seemed to be stable the same, and thermal paste was only brand new, I only bought that yesterday.

Did you mount the cooler correctly on the CPU? Check if the backplate of the cooler is loose, if so you might need to put some rubber in between to tighten it. Also when screwing down the cooler do it diagonaly so that the thermal paste spreads evenly.

What temperature monitoring program are you using and how did you test your CPU under load, was it with a CPU stress test or while gaming?

Everything is mounted properly. I've taken it apart and re-seated it. Backplate isn't loose, and comes with two pieces of double sided tape to hold it in place.

To monitor temperature I'm using HWmonitor, and prime95 for the stress test.

Prime 95 is not a realistic test for your cpu, in real life it will never be as stressed out as during this test. i'm not sure but i think my temps would also be much higher with prime95. Try to run some games and see how high your temps go, if they stay under 60°C while gaming i would say this is pretty normal.

What is your room temperature? i have seen my temps going up to 65°C while gaming during summer months, if your cpu has these same temps i would say it is pretty normal. I have never run prime95 because it is not that realistic.

Also i should mention i use a noctua fan to cool my radiator. This took my temps down another 3-5°C. What fan are you using on the radiator? the standard fan from Corsair or a different one?
Case fans will not be good for cooling radiators as you need fans with high static pressure.

Yeah I get that it's not a realistic test, but they advertise an i7 running at 100% load reaching temps of only 42 degrees. Again, I understand that even those temps seem unrealistic, but from that I'd still only expect temps to reach close to 70 degrees. Not pushing 90. Room temperature is quite cool as its winter, and I have a fan on in here constantly so there is constant air in the room. Still using the stock fan. Might try another one next week and see if it makes that big of a difference.

Using a different fan won't make that much difference but it is worth trying. I find it strange that i am reaching these lower temps. I looked on another forum with someone havong an I7 3770K and also hitting 90°C. everyone on that form said those temps were normal as the H55 is not a performance cooler.

Sorry i can't help you in this one.

All good. Just looking for suggestions. I was aware it wasn't a performance cooler, just expected more even from an entry level water cooler to be honest!
