Can it harm your computer?

Hello,
Does more than half plugged in 24pin power cable harm your computer or no?
I have got a Corsair CX600M psu and Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard. The problem with Corsair CX-series 24pin power cable is really known problem in this forum as I can see.. So does it actually harm your computer if the 24pin connector is not fully plugged into the motherboard or I am good to go like that? As the PC seems to run well..

As long as its a clean solid connection you're good, if not it can cause stability issues. I would suggest getting it as far in and as tight as possible.

Well i've tried to push it in with more force.. I'm scared that i can break my new motherboard :/ I've tried to push it with enough of force but it won't go in 100% .

Try pushing up on the motherboard with your fingers as you push down, or if you can slide a piece of plastic under the connector to support it, you should be fine.

If it's not seated well, it's causing resistance which causes voltage droop. I recommend replacing the power supply.

Either that or get a 24-pin extension cable from CableMod and use that connector to plug into the motherboard. However, this introduces a connection between the power supply and the motherboard, which could make any Vdroop problems worse.

I recommend the Cooler Master V/VSM series, the Corsair RMx/RMi series, and the EVGA SuperNOVA G2/P2/T2 series of power supplies.

Hi there ElectronGuyzz

I use to have a CX 500 between 2013-2014 but I now have an EVGA PSU as it is better quality (also the CX 500 was slowly dying from the stress of the newly installed GTX 970)

When I first installed it way back in 2013 I came across the same problem, the black clip on the ATX power cable would not click onto the ATX power slot as the cable would not go all the way in.

In the end I did the same as you, pushed as hard as I could to get the cable in but in the end I left it how it was and the computer worked fine for a year and a half till I decided to replace it has it was rattling and making clunky noises.

The pc will work but I would recommend you get a better PC in the future like a tier 1 or 2 if your going to stick a powerful GPU in.

My current PSU cables all clicked in totally fine, must be a manufacturing fault for the CX 500.

Yes, you're probably right. So far i've been using cx600m for a year with gtx 970 and seems to be no problems at all.

Also with pushing motherboard up and trying to push cable into the motherboard, I've actually tried that many times already, still seems to not go in 100% .

So far I've really had no problems with using this PSU, all has been working totally fine. It didn't go into the asus p8b75-v motherboard aswell 100%, well, if i first got that PSU I were having some issues like computer restarting itself or shut downs so I pushed the cable a bit and there were no issues anymore at all.

Just keep and eye of that PSU as it really isn't good.

I had only had my EVGA PSU installed for a few days then there was a storm and the pc shutdown (with a click) while playing Fallout 4, so I decided to wait till tomorrow to turn it on. Turned it on next day and a black screen came on and said the EVGA PSU had avoided surge damage by switching the system off.
If I had still had that CX 500 in my computer would of probably all been killed by the huge surge.

EVGA PSU even survived and is still working to this day.

Well, you never know. Maybe you were just lucky with that.
Thats why I'm usually NOT using my pc while its storming.
However, maybe I really need to start looking forwards new PSU's then .

Dude I live in Britain and this was a utter random storm that came, it was like only an hour before news found out it was coming.

When thunder struck the whole house shook, it was most aggressive storm the UK had had in a very long time.

Yah , I see. Your PSU is 550W, the one i looked at was 650W, thats why it costs more probably.

Unfortunately there were no EVGA PSU's in the shop I looked at
