Yesterday my hard drive (hgst 1 tb) disspaeraed from my computer. i tried several cables and seveal ports however it wont load up. i even tried in my laptop and my external docking station and the hard drive doesnt spool or boot at all? any ideas as to what i can do to recover the data?

Solution
Is it spinning or getting hot after a while at all? If not, put it in a sealable plastic bag and pop it in the freezer for an hour or so.

When you remove it, plug it straight in, preferably inside a warm computer case. If it was stuck in one position, the contraction from the cold and the gradual expansion from the fast warming up might free it.

HI there steve_os,

In case the drive is spinning up, you can go to Disk Management and see whether it is recognized over there. If it is, then you can try to access it with some data recovery tool.

In case the drive is not spinning up, then you will need to contact a data recovery company (if the data stored on the drive is really important) or just RMA it ( in case it is under warranty).

Cheers,
