Hello Tom Hardware community,

I have an issue with RAM I purchased recently. I purchased 1333MHZ RAM 2x4GB DDR3. However my motherboard only shows 400MHZ. My previous RAM was 2GB. I have tried to access BIOS and then manually increase the DRAM frequency. However, after spending some time on the computer after save and quit; my computer crashes. There's no blue screen when I increased it to 667MHZ, but just a simple reboot.

I did get a blue screen however, when I increased it up to 800MHZ. So basically, I have 8GB RAM on my computer and it's not performing at the level as it should; and won't allow me to increase DRAM frequency, without the computer eventually rebooting. My Bios is currently up to date.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard model : M4A78LT-M
Processor : AMD Athlon II X2 250
Graphics Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Windows 7 Ultimate
System type : 32-bit operating system

I will get back to you as soon as I've upgraded my PC to 64bit Os.

So I have upgraded my system to a 64 Bit. My computer now does more restarts more frequently. Not Blue screen or anything but just crashes while I'm browsing for a while or anything.

I also went to change the DRAM frequency in my BIOS and it only allowed me access up to 800MHZ. So actually 1066 MHz isn't even an option for me. I'm running with 400MHz at the moment.

What do you think ?
