I got all my new hardware today and been building my pc during the entire day (my first build).

The PC starts booting up, but then just shuts down. The GPU lights up and the fans start running, so everything seems to be plugged in right.

Specs:
GTX 970
i5 6600K
Kingston hyperX fury 2x8 GB 2666 MHz DDR4
Energyknight SS-500ET 500 Watt
Coolermaster hyper 212 evo
Gigabyte Z170 Gaming K3

Any solutions? I'm getting desperate here.

PS: Sorry for any typing mistakes, typing on my phone, seeing as my PC gave up on me...

Make sure your CPU is plugged in at the mobo and at the PSU. I built my friends computer last weekend and I forgot to plug it into the PSU and the computer would turn on, then power down, then back on, then down. And in general just double check all your cables and stuff. You can reseat memory and gpu if you want after you check the cables. My first build I freaked out because my computer wouldn't turn on; turns out I was hitting the button to change the lighting not the power button. Was glorious.

You are a god, thank you so much!

I was about to type "Triple-checked all the cables, pushed them all in real good, reseated the memory, but it didn't work."
I was also about to type "Is the CPU powered only through the motherboard or do you need to plug it in somewhere, because I don't see any plug near the CPU."
Then I checked again... it wasn't really that close to the CPU, but I found a plug that said "ATX" something... Voltage ... something, something...

So I plugged in an 8-pin in there... and who would have thought, that was actually the reason it didn't work. ^^

I'm glad it worked out in the end, I was afraid I'd have to put even more money towards a new PSU (I'm actually kind of amazed that 500 Watts is still enough!

Got all my drivers sorted out, everything seems to be working super. The rig is amazingly powerful compared to my previous PC.

I'm getting a bit emotional here, sorry. Thanks again, mate! :)

Yeah dude, it's pretty incredible how much less you need in a PSU than what most people anticipate. I'm glad you got your rig running my man. Sometimes the silliest errors the hardest ones to find haha. Keep me posted on how your rig works for ya!
