i have a geforce GT 730 and getting a new R9 290x Sapphire tri-x card
what should i do in terms of pre switching cards out, and post switching card out

^ Spot on.
Also be aware that big Tri-X cooler needs a well ventilated case to do its job well; Dual front fans for intake and dual top/rear fans for exhaust are really a must have here, as is a fairly roomy case!

Side notes: That card is quite a power hog, be very sure the PSU is up to the job of feeding it.
You're making a HUGE jump in GPU, is the rest of the system able to keep up?
And from the Department of the Obvious: Does it fit? Not all cases will accept such a massive card.

My specs
CPU -FX-6300
Motherboard -Msi 970 gaming
PSU- 585w something...:(
ATX DIY type PC
Ram- DDR3 2x8gb 1333
One fan for exhaust and
one fan for intake

I know my power supply is kinda low, but people in the forums said I should be able to get by

What people? Unless that PSU is a really good make or something, there is no way you should even attempt to use it, it's a disaster waiting to happen and has the potential to damage your other components.
