my power supply didnt come with a pci cable

Do you mean PCIE cable? Most new PSU come with PCIE cables. What model PSU is it? I was under the impression that almost all PSU had PCIE cables now. Very few items use molex any longer.

i got a EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 but they say on the box that the pcie cables are included but all i have are vga cables

I am still confused. A vga cable is a blue 15 pin cable used to connect an older video card to a monitor. A pcie power cable will usually be a 6 pin or a 6+2 pin configuration. 6+2 meaning it is a 6 pin block with an attached 2 pun that can be snapped on to the 6 pin main black if needed to make an 8 pin unit

it;s not really that big of a deal, as long as the GPU runs without the cable and it doesn't lagg or freeze, you should be fine. What i recommend is getting a new PSU, like the Spire 600w, it has 2 PCI-e power cables. I have it and runs great on my Core 2 Quad rig, if you're interested, here are the specs:
Asus P5QL Pro Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 @ 2,9GHz(Overclocked)
Asus GeForce 9600GT Silent Edition
16GB DDR2 800MHz RAM

That is just the way EVGA labels their cables. I also have the EVGA G2 850W. It is a modular power supply. The end plugging into the PSU is labeled VGA meaning that it is for a video card. It's not an actual VGA cable for plugging in a monitor.

I haven't opened up my case in a while but I'm pretty sure 6+2 pin end that goes into the GPU is labeled PCIe. It doesn't really matter if it is or not though. As Gam3r01 said that is the correct cable. There is no need to buy a new power supply. The EVGA G2 850W PSU is very nice.
