So, I got a TV and a PC with a Asus Xonar STX II that bought recently, and I was thinking on buying a soundbard for my TV to stream some games and play from the couch.

I understand I can just transmit video using the HDMI output from the videocard, what Im not sure is whats the best way to output sound?, is it better to use my soundcard output or is it the same using the HDMI output?.

If the correct answer is the first one, how can I easily switch between my headphones and the TV?.

Thanks.

The best way to output sound from the sound card to the TV would be by a receiver (PC -> receiver -> TV). The headset would have to be also connected to the receiver so you could easily change output between headset and TV.

I didn't know that people still brought soundcards in 2016 lol.

Your HDMI should be enough for the video and audio. Honestly you will not hear the difference anyway if you go with the sound card or HDMI because you are connecting to built in TV speakers (cheap quality) and you are thinking of going with a sound bar, (again not good sound quality).
