Hey guys,

Typing on this screen through my crappy on-board card's resolution is the worst, by the way.

I bought a brand new Gigabyte G1 1070 and I installed it and my computer will no longer boot. My motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-Z77x-UD5h, I just get to the white screen at the very start that says Gigabyte and can't get past that. Can't even get into BIOS. I remove the GPU and my computer boots fine.

Here are my specs, for the record:
Intel I5-3570k
Corsair 850W PSU
Gigabyte GA-Z77x-UD5h
Gigabyte GTX 1070

I have no idea why it would not work, my specs are more than good enough for it. To be fair though, I don't really know when my motherboard drivers were last installed. The Gigabyte website for motherboards always confuses me as to which to get.

Is this just a drivers thing or should I bring it back to the store and exchange it?

Solution
If both slots don't work, return it. And get another one. I would also consider ASUS Strix 1070, which has equally good design like G1. Both have insane cooling and also much better PCB designs than FE cards.

I will try different slot to test it. If the slot 1 won't work but another slot works, I will still return the card and probably get another 1070. I have a MSI GTX 1070 FE by the way. I wish I had purchased a G1 or another custom model. My card runs hotter than all custom cards.

Though the solution is a bit late. Update your bios to the latest version and your gtx 1070 will start working.

Use Rufus to create a bottable usb drive.
Enable legacy usb mode to boot the stick.
Updatr your bios
Have fun!
