Currently I have just bou0ght a xfx rx 480 graphics card and it is not working properly.

Previously i had a 650ti nvida graphics card that worked fine.
I took the old one out and put the new one in making sure that everything was plugged in correctly.

I have used both active and passive adapters for my dp's making sure that that wasn't the problem. I then booted through the onboard display and attempted to install the drives but when i used the disk it would only flash open and then close instantly.

To describe what happens. On startup the fan starts to spin but then has no other audiable beeps or anything. It displays absolutely nothing. I believe that my motherboard still recongnizes it as a graphics card because the onboard graphics don't work when it is plugged in

I have used both passive and active adapters for the dp's and neither have worked.
My motherboard is an older intel board that doesn't have pci-e 3.0 support but as i read it is backwards compatible. Do i need to update my motherboard bios or somthing? Do i need to uninstall my previous drivers for the new card to even display?

I have no idea please help me.
Thank you ahead of time for all of you help. :)

If you are not seeing the system POST to the BIOS then drivers aren't going to do anything for you. This is a system or BIOS issue plain and simple. So you have a few scenarios

1. Update the BIOS and it works - yay!
2. Update and it doesn't work - this could mean it will never work, or you have a defective card.
3. Can't update BIOS - either its never going to work, or you have a defective card.

So your first goal should be a BIOS update, if you can't get that to happen, and you can't get the system to POST with the card I'd exchange it for a new one. If it still doesn't then you are out of luck. I'm sorry to say, but at least its a fairly simple problem.

It is possible your motherboard has an issue with it, you should try to upgrade to the latest BIOS. I've seen this type of issue before but usually on prebuilts (Dell and HP).

Without the GPU installed there is no way to install the drivers so it makes sense why that didn't work

I just made sure that I had the drivers uninstalled correctly and i believe they were. I also attempted to update the motherboard bios but it didn't. Im not sure why.

The motherboard that I have is dh 67 bl intel It should work.

I still don't know what is wrong i haven't installed the new drivers yet because my internet is super slow and it will take a long time. I also don't know if it will fix the problem that my card won't display in the first place even in the bios. Also When i press the power button when the computer is on with the graphics not displaying it turns off instantly regardless of how much time has passed.

Do i still need to update the bios or will installing the drivers without the card working make a difference.

Thank you for your answers again.
