R9 390 Sapphire With a 500w Power Supply

im wondering wether its safe to use with my power supply.
i have a i7 2600k CPU

That's a 275 watt video card so not something I would do. Even if you power supply can really deliver 500 Watts , not sure on that since you never listed the power supply you have.

I wouldn't do it. At minimum I'd prefer a 550W PSU (based on 390), and a Sandy Bridge CPU needs more power than newer CPUs. So, get a new PSU for a 390. Get a 650W one.

okay i will get a new PSU, any ideas as to what i should get? im a student so i dont have a very big budget and i dont really knwo anything about PSUs.

The EVGA G2 series is excellent. All reviews give it 10/10. Actually, my new build (later this year) will be with the 650W version. Great PSU and fully modular!

Yes. Get the EVGA Gold one. And I say that as a Corsair owner. EVGA PSUs have been killing it lately. Great components and reasonable price.

my friend told me it was better to get 750 instead of just 650.

If you have a 2700k and plan to only have 1 GPU, then 650W is more than enough. No need for 750W. 2016 GPUs only need 550W, so getting 650W is even over the top. But I'd get 650W to have better efficiency.

I wouldn't buy that one. Wait and get the one that is high quality.

The problem with the 650W G2 is that, in the case of a brownout, when the energy is still being dissipated from the bulk capacitor and the output voltages drop, the PSU cuts the PWR_OK signal at an unsafe voltage; whereas the PSU should alert the motherboard to shut it off before the 12V goes below 11.4V, it cuts the signal far afterwards, when the voltage is out of spec.

I prefer the RMX and RMi over the G2 series , have put them in the last 5 builds for clients.

My #1 complaint, having owned two G2s, is that the length between SATA headers is too short. Only 100mm, whereas on other units you'll see 150mm or inbetween; I have to literally stretch my SATA cables to the max to reach the drives, they should have made those lengths longer.
