I'm thinking that it will bottleneck my cpu, but just want to get other people's advise.
My cpu is an athlon 860k and I'm after buying the gtx 1060, I currently have the r9 270x with no bottlenecking at all, but what do you people think?

Solution
A CPU bound Program will have more of an issue. This is due to the program using the CPU more to start with. FPS will suffer because the CPU can not send and process all the information that GPU can handle. This causes the GPU to starve for work showing up as low GPU usage and low FPS in games/rendering.
it will depend on what games/ programs you run and the resolution you run them at. Some programs are CPU bound which means that they use the CPU a lot more than the GPU, like MMO's, so it can appear that CPU is the bottleneck. In this case upping the resolution would shift more stress onto the GPU but still be mostly CPU bound.

Some are GPU bound this means that the program uses more of the GPU than the CPU. In these cases lowering the resolution can help ease the stress on the GPU allowing for better performance. Everything depends on what programs you are running.

I run at 21:9, 2560x1080, and this cpu I won't have for long as I'm looking to upgrade to a skylake cpu.

Some programs will be bottle necked some wont. again it will depend on the program. MMO's are usually CPU bound, many AAA titles are GPU bound but not all. If your planing on going with a skylake CPU then the 1060 is a good purchase because you will not likely be bottle necked once you switch.

When you say depend on the programme, which will bottleneck, a cpu intense programme or a gpu intense?
