Overclocking CPU with a stock cooler.

I need about 5 fps and I was wondering if overclocking my CPU could do it. I have a G3258 3.2ghz with a stock cooler and a fan in case, I have never overclocked anything so I don't know if it's even safe to do it.

Update: I just hope I don't ruin my cpu and I hope it will be enough for 5 fps. And thank you for all the replies :)

That's a bummer. :(

Sell it as used and buy another one :)

The G3258 exists to be overclocked. 4.0-4.4 is possible with the stock cooler, depending on how lucky you are. Being a dual-core with no HT, it doesn't draw enough current to put any decent LGA 1150 motherboard in danger. The worst thing that can happen is that you shorten the life of a $60 CPU. I say crank it up :)

A few hundred megaheartz wouldn't hurt but I do not recommend ocing much on stock cooler.
Your chip generates not much heat so you can get away with 0.2-0.3 ghz easily on stock cooler.
Which chipset is your mobo?

You may can get 200-300 MHz out of it with the stock cooler. Just lock down your vcore so your board won't increase it any and bump the multi a bit and see what happens. If you have to raise the vcore to be stable it'll be too hot on a stock cooler... Carefully monitor temps after trying my 3350p runs at 3.7/3.5 (supposed to be 3.3 max turbo)

What is a safe temperature? How do I know when it's overheating.
