Hello...

Im building a second hand pc and got my hand on a XFX Pro 550w Power supply but after like a week of using it it started makeing a crackling sound... its not very loud but loud enoght to hear its something wrong... Ive taken a look if its maybe one of the fanks touching something but its not and im 90 % sure thats its the PSU...

The sound starts immediately as i power on the pc and stops when i shut it down... Ive read some threads that it might be couse of heavy load but its not becouse i have a weak graphic card in it right now and the crackling start immediately as i boot up the PC... Ive also read that might be becouse of a low quality PSU not haveing good enoght components but its XFX :) ...

I was wondering what could it be, is it fixable? I was hopeing to get an answer before i go and buy a better graphic card...

Components:
i7 920
Gigabyte GA FX58 UD5
8GB Corsair RAM dual channel config
1TB HD
HD 5750 Graphic Card

Thank you very much!

Well the psu has it's protections so i don''t think it will "brake" the pc. I can't however be 100% sure so keep an eye on things, when the pc acts "funny" might be wise to change the psu,Might be wise anyway,in the end shouldn't you be hearing it.

Don't buy psu's used, you don't know why people get rid of them and they are very crucial for the well being of the pc.

Hi,

Try this, open the case and flip the PSU and lightly shake it a bit or light hit on the fan and put it back as might be a dust in the fan. If the sound disappear for good then you solved it but if it comes back it is better to RMA.

I took it out and opened and cleaned it (vaccumed) it and still the same thing.... I can't flip it over because I have a old case with top mounted psu and no opening on the top for air... It would choke...

Thanks for responding...

Take a look...
